Join Services for Independent Living (SIL) as an Adult Independent Living Specialist who primarily works with seniors and adults with disabilities to enhance their ability to live independently. This role involves collaborating closely with the volunteer coordinator to match seniors in the Sunshine for Seniors Program with appropriate volunteers, as well as facilitating monthly groups. This role also works closely with the senior case manager to provide independent living services to keep seniors aging in their homes and closely with the Youth ILS in transitions to adult programming. What will I do?

  • Client Support and Advocacy:
    • Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients' independent living skills.
    • Develop and implement individualized plans to address clients' needs and goals.
    • Provide assistance to clients with paperwork, filing and delivering of supplies.
    • Advocate for clients' rights and needs within the community and support systems.
  • Volunteer Coordination:
    • Work closely with the volunteer coordinator to match volunteers.
    • When needed support the ongoing relationships between SIL and volunteers to ensure positive and beneficial interactions.
  • Educational Facilitation:
    • Organize and facilitate monthly educational sessions and social groups, providing educational and social opportunities for seniors and adults with disabilities.
    • Develop content for these sessions based on the needs and interests of the participants.
    • Provide Independent Living Skills opportunities at the office and in the community for seniors and adults with disabilities (including those transitioning from youth programming).
  • Community Engagement:
    • Connect clients with community resources, including healthcare, social services, and recreational activities.
    • Promote community awareness of the services offered by the organization and encourage participation.
    • Attend resource fairs and outreach events when applicable.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of client interactions and progress.
    • Prepare reports as required by the organization and ensure compliance with all relevant policies and regulations.

Position requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, Gerontology, Psychology, Rehabilitation Counselling, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Experience working with seniors and/or adults with disabilities is highly preferred.
  • Previous experience in volunteer coordination or community program facilitation is a plus.
